Envato Elementor Template Kits: "Please upload a valid Template Kit zip file" or "Failed to process ZIP file"

Two similar error may occur on upload of files to the Template Kit Upload plugin for WordPress. Both indicate the file format cannot be processed, but have different causes.

• Failed to process ZIP file, please ensure the selected file is the correct Template Kit format.

  This error typically indicates that the file you are trying to upload is not an Elementor Template Kit that is compatible with the Envato WordPress plugin, but can also occur if your server is misconfigured to handle zip files.

  Verify your item is an Elementor Template Kit

  There are several template types on Envato such as HTML Templates, Site Templates, UI Templates and Figma Templates, but they are not all compatible with WordPress or Elementor. The Template Kit Import plugin for WordPress is specifically designed for Elementor Template Kits only and will not install other items, including WordPress themes.

  2. If the listing on our site does not have Elementor Template Kit in the title and description, it is not a compatible item
     
     What is the difference between an Elementor Template Kit and a WordPress Theme?

     • Elementor Template Kits contain the design data for the Elementor Page Builder plugin for WordPress only
     • WordPress Themes are legacy frameworks that contain custom post types, various plugins, templates and page designs which may or may not include Elementor

     If your item says "Site Template", "Bootstrap Template", "HTML Template", "XD Template" or any other template type, it is not compatible with WordPress and cannot be installed using our plugin.

  Verify your server can process zip files

  1. Go to Elementor > System Info and ensure Zip Installed is Yes
  2. Check your PHP Configuration:
     • PHP Version should be 8.3 as of WordPress version 6.2
     • 'open_basedir' is disabled
     • set 'allow_url_fopen' to 'ON'
     • 'upload_max_filesize' must be adequate. We recommend 64MB or higher

  If you do not know where to check these values, please contact your hosting provider for support.

• Error: Failed to process ZIP file, please ensure the selected file is the correct Template Kit format

  

  This error may occur if the Template Kit file you downloaded has been unzipped, re-zipped, modified by some zip software (e.g. saved as a different format such as .7zip or .rar), or is not an Envato Template Kit.
